About Aenea Kanaan

Aenea Kanaan is a mixed Palestinian American poet, artist, and storyteller based in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

As a Syracuse University graduate, she uses her Communication and Rhetorical Studies degree to build worlds through her imaginative writing and channel her deepest, most intimate feelings into art. With the opportunity to study abroad in Osaka, Japan during her time at Syracuse, she gained an even more profound reverence for other cultures, languages, and ways of life which influence how she sees the world. She believes that stories can be a bridge between people, a mirror in which we can see the humanity in one another. She uses her passion to transmute pain into beauty. Gold is the first official release of her written work, though her love for writing started as young as seven when she wrote countless short stories inspired by her favorite books. To this day she is an avid reader, with a passion for singing and plant-based cooking.

Volume one

A book of rememberance, of light in the darkness, of hope against all odds. A chant to stoke your sacred flame, a song to remember your name. The duality of growing pains and silver linings.

The second installment of a chronological series of Kanaan's lived experience through poetry, this book is largely reflective of her headspace and inner growth during 2022-2025. This season has been anything but easy, yet there's beauty in the bleak and healing, even at the weakest points. It's harder to choose love-grittier, messier- but always worth it. Love is the answer, community is the antidote.

While originally intended to be released in the same seven-year period it took the author to write Gold, due to deeper awakenings to the magnitude of the forces plaguing and profiting off suffering beings across the world, patterns have been interrupted, and Kanaan is certain this book must be released now. Atrocity no longer has anywhere to hide; the free people of the world scream for justice and unite across all perceived barriers. This is indigenous reclamation, dreaming without limits, and willing a better world through conscious embodiment.

Gold

June 2022

Aenea Kanaan is extremely proud and excited to share her first official release, GoldGold centers around the themes of love and loss, vulnerability, the journey to discover self-worth, and finding one’s voice in a world that has become increasingly loud.  Combining poetry written from 2014 through 2021, this book is the first physical manifestation of a deeply personal look into her mind. Using poetry as a powerful outlet of self-expression, she explores the realities of staying true to oneself, the struggle to belong, embracing sensitivity as a superpower, and the human existence itself. This book is meant to be as cathartically healing to read as it was to create.

"The creation of a single world comes from a huge number of fragments and chaos."
